Ukraine
Challenge
UPDATE 5:
July 13-20, 2003
“Many
small steps ~ Many seeds sown”
God continues to do His work quietly and uniquely in the
hearts and lives of the people of
Ukraine
and the American volunteers. This
week there were no fireworks or clanging bells, but many small steps were made
and many seeds sown.
Billy Sellers team (Daniel and Shirley Acosta, John David and Tanya Cox,
Tom and Laura Hall, Kevin, Glenda and Autumn Mauldin, Eddie Covil, Jo Baucum,
A.B. Flannagin) began their ministry in Teteriv.
This is a wonderful congregation that meets in a little building that
they have remodeled sitting on top of a hill.
The building has only two small rooms—one for children’s Sunday
School and the other for the services. This
building has two small problems: the
congregation has significantly outgrown these two rooms and the road ends before
it gets to the church. This did not
hinder this group from having 75-100 children everyday for day camp.
Team members also held small clinics with Nurse Shirley and did some
evangelistic work in nearby villages. At
night men and ladies gathered in separate discipleship conferences.
Ron Zedick’s team began their second week in Torchinovichee—out in the
mountains of
Western Ukraine
. They continued with the day camp,
held some sports clinics, and did personal evangelism in this small village
where there is no church yet. The
children and youth are very open to the gospel but the adults are still very
distant. At this time, there are
only a couple of true believers. Work
has been started on a small mission center that could be used for services.
There is a young Ukrainian missionary who travels there from another city
to minister.
Beth Nichols worked with a team from
Tennessee
in Voronkiv this week. This church
is a model for good camp organization and church planting.
There has been a tremendous moving of the Holy Spirit among the young
people of this area. 27 have made
professions of faith during the summer including the pastor’s two teenagers.
Saturday the church baptized 13 new members—4 of whom were older
teenagers.
Buddy and Janada visited in Irpin church seeing many old friends and also
passed along many of your greetings as well.
Monday they had a special outing with Pastor Sasha and all his family.
Prayer requests:
- A
bigger building for Teteriv
- A
permanent missionary living in Torchinovichee
- Completion
of the center in Torchinovichee
- Completion
of the church in Irpin
