Kabardino-Balkaria

"God is always on the alert, constantly on the lookout for people who are totally committed to Him."

2 Chronicles 16:9, The Message

     Ukrainians on Mission!

Gerashchenko Family 2011Pavel [Pasha], Tanya, and their three boys are Ukrainians who felt God's call to be missionaries to the Turkish people in Kabardino-Balkaria. Pasha, Tanya and their three sons pose near the home in Irpen which they left to be obedient to God's call. By faith, they moved to Karbadino-Balkaria in late July 2011 to begin new ministry.

We ask you to pray about these plans as we see what doors God will open for Ukraine Challenge to support this family. Pray that God will provide for all the needs associated with this ministry!

Letter from Pasha Gerashenko

"I apologize that you did not hear from us. We are just now able to have internet connection. The technical progress is a little worse here than in Ukraine and a little more expensive! But God saw everything and we can now communicate with you through Internet. Thank you very much for your prayers and support.

We have enrolled the children in a local school. The local church took us as their members. Also, we are getting acquainted with our Turkish neighbors. They invited us to visit them during their Muslim festival. We met them and their extended families.

We are studying the life of the Turkish people in our area so we can have some idea how to serve them. Tanya wants to use the Turkish language that she learned in Ukraine and Turkey to start a class for Turkish language study in school. The school has 70% Turkish children. Today we spoke with the teachers at school about it and they like the idea but will need to clear this question with the administration. (As we understand it, this is a Russian speaking school.) There is, also, the idea to start a sports ministry using ping-pong at the school.

We want to try to serve at the local open market with our Turkish friends because they are always busy selling vegetables and fruits. We think that if we are together with them selling something at the market, it will help us get better acquainted with them and make friends. We have never sold anything on the market but for the sake of the Gospel, we are ready to learn a new profession.

Growing things and selling them is what most locals do here. Because of our presence there, we are able to build relationships with the other sellers. We have been working at the market already two weeks, and it has really helped us. We have made many contacts and a few friends.

We had an opportunity to share tea at the market and stories from Inzhil (New Testament). Please continue to pray for our family and for the Lord to open the hearts of the local people."

The need in this project is primarily for funds to help support this family as they establish this ministry. A one-time gift or a monthly stipend would make a tremendous difference in reaching the Turkish speaking people of this area. Want to help? Click here for information on making donations.
